| The arctic kite challenge |
|
| Located in the far northeast
corner of Norway, where the sea meets the sky, the Varanger
region bathes in the midnight sun and the northern lights.
This is the arena for the arctic kite challenge.
After hosting 3 incredibly successful arrangements the organizers
was invited to host the Snowkiting world championship for
2006.
Vadsø has perfect conditions for snowkiting. Long winter
season and large snowy mountain plateaus combined with lots
of wind are the important elements which makes Varanger to
one of the best spots in the world for snowkiting.
The desire to make Varanger a paradise for kiters was born
in 2003, and the following summer the first Arctic Kite Challenge
was arranged. Arctic Kite Challenge 2004 was held in August
at the beaches in Ekkerøy. The event was a great success
among both participants and spectators, and contributed to
make Varanger known as a kiting destination among both national
and international kiters.
Varanger is located in the far north of Scandinavia, 70 degrees
north to be precise, in the northernmost county of Norway
called Finnmark. The area, which is a peninsula with an area
of 3,300 square kilometres, is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean
and characterised by its arctic nature. The nature and climate
in this area are quite unique and it is difficult to make
comparisons with other places in the world.

Here's an older video from 2004. We made this in collaboration
with Stance Magazine Arctic
2004
We are proud to be collaborating with The arctic Kite Challenge
as we consider it to be the most interesting and exotic ventures
in kiteboarding and snowkiting.
